How to Measure Correctly

Waist Measurement:

  • Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Locate the narrowest part of your torso (usually just above navel)
  • Wrap measuring tape around this point
  • Keep tape parallel to the floor
  • Take measurement after a normal exhale

Hip Measurement:

  • Stand with feet together
  • Find the widest part of your hips/buttocks
  • Wrap measuring tape around this point
  • Keep tape parallel to the floor
  • Don't pull tape too tight

Healthy Ranges

Men:
Low Risk:< 0.85
Moderate Risk:0.85 - 0.90
High Risk:> 0.90
Women:
Low Risk:< 0.75
Moderate Risk:0.75 - 0.80
High Risk:> 0.80

Waist-to-hip ratio indicates body fat distribution and associated health risks:

  • Higher ratios indicate more abdominal fat
